Stitch Fix #3 - The One Where I Model the Clothes!

I got another Stitch Fix, and this time I'm even going to model the clothes. Totally out of my comfort zone here, folks!

You may remember that my last Stitch Fix was a bust that ended with the cry, "Back in the bag, ugly shirt!" I'm having a much better experience this time around.

In case you haven't heard of Stitch Fix, here's the short version.

Stitch Fix is an online personal stylist for normal people like you and me. To get started, you go online and fill out a detailed style profile.

For a twenty dollar styling fee (that can be applied to anything you buy from your Fix), your stylist picks five items especially for you and ships them to your door. You have three days to try them on with other items from your own closet. Then, you simply go online to checkout. Purchase the things you like and send the rest back in the postage paid bag that comes with your Fix. Like it all? You get a whopping 25% discount when you buy all five items. Shipping is free both ways. Easy and fun!

Without further ado, here's my latest Fix. What do you think?

I asked for a maxi in this Fix. Pros - The fabric is nice, and the color (a deep navy) is so gorgeous. I can style it lots of ways. I already tried it with my navy cardigan, my flowy white scarf and my coral cardigan. I've always loved longer dresses and have been wanting to try a maxi style. Cons - It will need to be hemmed, and it's very form-fitting. Can I wear this dress at 51? I found that holding my purse strategically helped in the photos. Do I want to have to do that all the time? Sure is pretty, though. . .
The next tank is fun. Pros - I like the fit and the color, plus I don't have anything like it. Cons - It's 100% nylon, and the fabric feels kind of cheap to me. It is not, however, cheap.

Notice the little styling cards in the photos. Every item in your Fix comes with a styling card to give you ideas of how to mix and match it with items from your own closet. Genius!

I asked for flowy summer tops in this Fix. Pros - It's flowy, and I love the color. Cons - I'm not sure it really does anything for me. What do you think?

This next blouse took me back in time to the Phi Mu Hall. My how we all loved our pink and green back in the day. I'm not sure why this was in my Fix, since my profile says I like to avoid plaid. It was also too small, and it kind of made me feel like a farmer. 10-year-old Julia (my photographer), however, thought that it was a good look for me and that it had potential. Doesn't really matter, though. This one goes back!

Last up, another item I requested - a summer blazer. I wasn't thrilled with the color, and this one was too small as well. Back it goes! I'm thinking that maybe a blazer is something that's better purchased in person.

Overall, this Fix was much more my style. And as you can tell, Julia and I had a blast doing the photo shoot this afternoon.

So here's where you can help. Without knowing the prices, what do you think I should get? Leave a comment, and let me know. I'll let you know what I choose and give you my best Stitch Fix tips on Monday!

  1. The green colored tank is very nice and looks great on you, keeper. I love the maxi dress, but do YOU love it...enough to wear it and not feel like you need a purse with you? The coral color looks GREAT on you, but I do agree the shirt didn't do much for you, you have a very nice shape and that shirt hides it (see I think you can wear the maxi dress, but you have to feel great in it). I'm not a plaid person myself but I have to admit that shirt was cute on you, too bad it is small.
I love seeing what you get, but have been disappointed that they are really paying attention to your likes and dislikes.

    1. Except for the plaid shirt, this Fix was pretty much right on the money! I asked for a maxi dress, flowy shirt, and a blazer or a jean jacket. The colors were great - except for the shade of green for the blazer. Green is hard. I love some shades of green and hate others. Thanks for the input!

  2. Do not buy that maxi just because you love the fabric! If you are uncomfortable with the fit you will never love the dress.
The pink tank shirt looks great on you. It doesn't have to be form-fitting to flatter.

  3. You looked great in all of 'em! I'm trying not to be jealous and want to poke you in the eye! I wish I had your figure! The plaid may have pulled at the bust but you did look cute in it. With some long, chunky jewelry I think you could avoid the farmer vibe.

  4. I'm going to add some comments from Facebook so I can have them all in one place.

From a Facebook Fan of Death by Great Wall: I love the pink shirt! I'd say that's the #1 keeper. I really like the dress too and you look great in it, but keep it only if you're comfortable with the fit (if you decide you don't like how fitted it is, can you exchange it for a different size?). And the plaid looks way better on you than you think, it's really fun!

"Like the style of the green top - not sure of the color for you but maybe it's just the photo rather than in person. You are brave to ask."

"I like the pinky, coral lay color of the other top better on you but the green top style is great - dilemma."

"What fun! I love the green top on you. It is c.u.t.e."

"What a great idea! Thx for your brave sharing! I will definitely look at it... I love the green top!"

"My fav is the green tank. Fits great. Like the color on you. Green is the color of the year."

  10. From Facebook: I like the green shirt best. I like the Maxi, but you can find something you feel more comfortable in. I liked it best with the coral cardigan, but do you wear cardigans in Orlando in July? I also like the style of the plaid shirt but I agree not that plaid. I say buy the cheapest one that you like then go look for the others at the mall which would be cheaper but similar style. Looks like fun though!
