Today we visited the site of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. I think I've mentioned that Wen Xin climbs on Mike like he's a piece of playground equipment 24/7. Mike's shoulder is really hurting from the constant workout! Our guide, Mina, explained to Wen Xin that Baba's shoulder was hurt and he shouldn't climb on him today. So Wen Xin immediately turned and took Mike's backpack and carried it for him most of the day.
Today we talked with Wen Xin about his name. We asked him if in America, he'd like us to call him his American name, Joseph, or if he'd like us to continue to call him Wen Xin. He said he'd like to be called Wen Xin. We'll see. We don't have a problem at this point with having Joseph Michael be his legal name - it's already on all his adoption documents - but having his friends and family call him Wen Xin. At some point he may prefer having an American name - but maybe not.
This speaks for itself.
And finally Baba decided that it was worth a little shoulder pain to give his boy a ride.

ReplyDeleteSo great to follow your journey! We wish they had this technology when we adopted. Don't sweat the small stuff. The love your family has for him will work all things in time. We love them so even before we have them in our arms and we yearn to pour that love on them. They in turn have spent their years forcing themselves to deny their need for love.
